WASHING A RABBIT

Written by Mark in Animals & Wildlife | No Comments »

I have a rabbit. He is white, called Toby and is very cute. Today was bath time, which, just like for any young child he is 18 months) can be a traumatic time for both child (rabbit) and me (parent).
He generally need a bath every month, and although he would tell you that he hates having them, once the ordeal is over he actually quite enjoys the fact that he has been bathed.

First of all there is catching him. Somehow he just know’s when the bath time is around the corner. Any other time of the month he will happily come up to you for a cuddle, but when you want to bath him, catch him you can’t.

Once caught there is then the kicking to put up with, which is usually stopped by a swift hand under the bum to control the legs. With the water ready a nice warm temperature, and a touch of baby shampoo in, the rabbit can be lowered into the washing up basin. After the initial kicking is over and you are a wet as he is in the basin, the bathing starts, which he actually enjoys.

The rabbit is then rung out, placed in a towel and then held for a few minutes to dry. I find it then best to place the rabbit on a towel in front of the fire. The rabbit will then preen himself for about 20 minutes without moving away from the fire until his coat is lovely and soft and clean.

Once you have then changed your clothes and showered you can continue with whatever you where doing in the first place.
