It seems that Liverpool have finally been taken over by investors. However they are not from Dubai as many people would have expected 2 – 3 weeks ago. No, they are from David Beckhams new hunting ground the USA.
The takeover is by George Gillet and Tom Hicks and these will both act as co-chairman. However they are going the leave the existing chief executive Rick Parry to run the club – something which I am sure Liverpool fans will welcome.
They have paid over £400 million for the club. The club itself worth around £175 million and the the £40 or so million of debt they have. Add onto this the £200 million that they are investing in order to build the new stadium and probably some money for Raffa to buy new players (or so the fans hope!).
What was worrying some of the fans was that it was though that the American duo was borrowing the money in order to buy the club which is surely a riskt business. However they have given their assurance today that this is not the case.
Speaking to Liverpool fans that I know they are all for the takeover. They say that there is the need for new investment in order to keep up with the Chelsea’s, Manchester United’s and Arsenal’s of the premier league. There is also the prospect of the new stadium that the club wish to build in Stanley Park. Maybe this can now go ahead.
One thing is definitely sure for the future of Liverpool football club and that is that there is going to be some changes in the near future. Lets just hope that they are changes for the better!
Well that is it for another year. Christmas has come and gone once again. All over for another year. I don’t know about you but I always feel that Christmas is one of the biggest anti-climax’s of all time. We all seem to spend ages and ages in the build up for the ‘big’ day (which seems to begin in about September these days!) and then once the day arrives, well, it is just another day really. Don’t get me wrong it is nice to have the family round and that and the day is usually enjoyable, but the build up seems somewhat overkill to me.
We seem to put under increasing amounts of pressure these days to have the ‘most wonderful Christmas’ or the ‘biggest day’ of the year, when actually the whole point of Christmas has just gone. I mean at the end of the day it is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ which I think people just don’t even think about any more. I am not religious at all and therefore Christmas to me has never been at the ‘real Christmas’, but why has it become this massive pressure time of the year? How has society created this image that Christmas has to be this ‘amazing’ time of the year?

I don’t know whether you have heard of this website called You Tube (it has just been bought by Google for millions!) but I was looking on there the other day. It is basically a video sharing site were you upload video content and then everybody else can view it.
I was looking around the other night and started searching for content of F1 and came across lots of excellent videos about F1 motor racing when I came across this very thought provoking clip on all the drivers that have lost their lives whilst racing in the formula one circuit. Take a look at the video below:
There are three that had me almost in tears. The first being Williamson’s car. Someone else in the race stopped their car to help but couldn’t assist as the car burns and burns and the poor chap ends up walking away in tears. Just think of the emotion that must have been going through his mind at the time. The second being the marshall that ran across the track to help another driver and was hit by a car, both he and the driver that hit him died. The final one of course being Ayrton Senna, I remember that as a kid in 1994 and couldn’t believe what had happened. It finally came over that the sport is real and very dangerous. Well done to the person that put this excellent movie onto You Tube. A fitting tribute to the guys that lost their lives.
